Great Wall Charity Trek from Beijing, China

In addition to providing student and university groups with an unbelievable Great Wall experience, we also believe in improving our global community, which we are proud to contribute to with our Great Wall charity treks. Our Great Wall charity trekking programs operate similarly to our school expeditions. Instead of colleges and universities however, we partner with a number of voluntary organizations, companies, community groups, and non-profits for fundraising events.

Just think, what could inspire your association more than a thrilling and exhilarating adventure on the Great Wall? Not only is it a chance to visit one of the world's most impressive historical sites, the Great Wall, but also it offers a rare opportunity to trek and camp in a remote part of rural China and to experience local life in its most unspoilt state. As with our school expeditions, we can take care of your entire trip needs, be it airfare, lodging, further sightseeing, and hiking and camping materials. And of course, our rigorous safety standards still apply. Please note that for our Great Wall charity treks we do not accept individual applications, and we will direct all individuals interested to charitable organizations near their locations.

If you are a voluntary/charitable organization, please contact us today if you are interested in working with us on a Great Wall charity trek. As a leader in responsible travel, we understand the hard work and dedication it takes to making a difference in the world. Please let us reward your effort with a journey that you’ll never forget.

Why You Need a Professional Guide from Great Wall Adventure Club?

Some of you have recently asked us why you can’t walk hike on the Great Wall by yourself without a guide. While we certainly appreciate your enthusiasm there are a couple of issues that you should consider:

The unrestored part of the Great Wall, known as “Wild Wall”, is dangerous in many parts. Hikers can get lost, injured, or even lose their lives if they try to climb some parts of the wall they are not familiar with. They can also be apprehended by local administrators if they violate rules they are not aware of. This is especially true when it comes to Gubeikou, as part of it lies within a restricted military base.

Some trekkers think they won’t be able to freely explore with a guide. In fact, our guides lead you to parts of the “wild” Great Wall where only a small number of western visitors have ever been before.

A few hikers believe they can save some money if they hike alone. In actuality, the guide fee makes up a minimal portion of your overall cost. The majority of your tour price comes from vehicle rental, fuel price, and the ridiculously expensive highway tolls that are not seen in the countries such as US and Canada.

The peril of hiking alone can best be illustrated when in early November of 2012 heavy snow fell in Badaling (the unrestored part of it). Three Japanese hiked in that part with a Chinese guide. When the group of hikers encountered extreme danger from the heavy snow, their guide was able to find a way to run down and get a rescue team to save the Japanese hikers. Unfortunately, two of the hikers lost their life.  Although only one of the Japanese hikers was saved, it proved the importance of having a guide to lead a Great Wall hike. In an emergency, their guide was the only hope that they could count on. The Japanese hikers didn't count on the snow being a big problem, as there were few signs that it would snow that day. But, they made the right decision to hire a professional guide who knew the way and was able to seek help.

Beijing and Northern China

The capital of China, Beijing, is the country’s cultural and political center. Many sections of the Great Wall (as well as the Ming Tombs) are within the vicinity of Beijing, and the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square mark the city center. The Olympics held in Beijing in 2008 marked the arrival of China as a world superpower, and some consider it to mark the arrival of the “Chinese century”. For any first –time visitor to China, a Beijing tour is a must. Many of our China package tours include a stop in Beijing, and you will not regret visiting.

Just about 200km outside the city is Chengde, the summer retreat for China’s Emperors and entourage. Northern China was once called Manchuria, and the ethnic group here (known as Manchus) made up the last ruling dynasty, the Qing. Through our China City Package tours you can visit Chengde. Some of the highlights of Chengde include the Chengde Summer Palace, and the Eight Outer Temples, which was built in close imitation to the Potala Palce in Tibet.

When Emperor Qin Shihuang united China for the first time in 221 BC, he chose Xian as the capital of his empire. When he died, he buried with him the Terracotta Army, and the discovery of this army marks Xian’s greatest and most famed attraction. The capital of Shaanxi province, Xian marks the end of the famed Silk Road, and in Xian you can see classic Chinese meshed with Muslim markets and bazaars. Xian is also the only major city in China to have its ancient city walls still intact, and through one of our China city tours or China package tours you can guard its watchtowers as they did hundreds of years ago.

Also in the northern region of China is the province of Inner Mongolia, and it capital city of Hohot. While a part of China it shares many similar characteristics with its larger and independent brother to the north. Here there are grasslands as far as the eye can see, and in the western areas there are vast stretches of the Gobi desert. On your China package tour to Inner Mongolia you can participate in many traditional Mongolian nomadic activities, like horse back riding, archery, Mongolian wrestling, and you can even stay in an authentic Mongolia yurt hut!

China School Expeditions & Charity Treks

Great Wall Adventure Club has specialized in Great Wall trekking and camping for the past two decades, with a particular emphasis on handling large groups and parties. We have vast amounts of experience in this, as we lead and guide Great Wall treks on almost every day of the year. Our commitment to quality and service has paid off, as our trips have been recommend by such esteemed sources such as the Wall Street Journal and most recently in Fodor’s 2010 China guide. The Beijing Olympics of 2008 was our time to shine, as we lead many Olympic groups upon their Great Wall trips. Some of the teams we lead were the USA Softball Team and the UK Men’s Rowing team, along with other Olympic teams from Russia, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. During their coverage NBC even broadcasted one of our Great Wall hikes. Just this past summer we led two groups of UK students, aged between 19-23, on their 12-day Great Wall trek, teaming with one of the premier school expedition services in the world. Both groups (30 and 28 students respectively), embarked on our 12-day Great Wall route sleeping on the wall and in local family’s houses along the way. The feedback we got back form the participants was tremendous. They raved about our guides, the hiking route, and our service. The experience was so positive that for the year of 2011 we plan on hosting about 400 UK students on their Great Wall school expedition.

Xian Tours To Terra-Cotta Warriors Army & Horses, and More Sightseeing in Xi'an

Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, is located in the heart of the Guanzhong Basin, with the Weihe River running along the northern border of the city. It is the largest metropolis in northwestern China. Known as Chang'an in ancient China, Xi'an is a world-renowned ancient capital.

For 1,062 years beginning in the 11th century B.C., Xi'an was the capital of 13 dynasties including the Western Zhou, Qin, Western Han, Eastern Han, Sui, and Tang. The continuous dynastic occupation kept the city beautiful and magnificent. More than two hundred and seventy palaces and temples were built during its heyday, such as the "Three Han Palaces" in the Han dynasty, namely Changle, Weiyang, Jianzhang Palaces, and numerous other palaces and watch towers. The most well known among these is the Tomb of Emperor Qin Shihuang, with the Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses. Xi'an is also the starting point of the ancient Silk Road.

Xi’an, cradle of Chinese civilization, is home to the ancient capital of 13 dynasties. Many splendid ancient civilizations fostered here have left with the city enormous cultural heritages. Substantial cultural relics like stone tablets, classical books, paintings, music, museum and drama have provided ample information and resource for the shaping of unique cultural produces of Xi’an.
The three ancient city parks in Qujiang District are perfect for tourists who want to enjoy outdoor experience. One-thousand-year-old Qujiang garden is most representative of Chinese ancient landscape garden. Built in Qin and Han dynasties, it flourished in Sui and Tang dynasties. Qujiang pool, Tang City Wall and Tang Ci’en Temple are the three park remains that reveal the splendor of Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties. Lawns, bridges and lakes display the natural beauty under the heaven. It is acclaimed to be an exemplary park for the combination of classical and modem elements and the co-existence between human and nature.

Experiencing the Prosperity of the Ancient Capital

Large-scale Motorcade Parade of the Thirteen Dynasties of the Ancient Capital shown in Tang Paradise is a great event. Capitalizing on the rich cultural heritage of Xi’an and the modern technology, it tried to recreate in perfection the prosperity of the thirteen dynasties whose capitals were in Xi’an. With the modern technology and beauty theory, it demonstrates for the audience the historical changes in Zhou, Qin, Han, Tang dynasties and the splendid culture of Chinese nation.

“Return Back to Tang Dynasty in the Dream”- A Poetic Tang dynasty Show

“Return Back to Tang Dynasty in the Dream” staged in Tang Paradise is a magnificent, enchanting and cheerful theme show which marks the highest-level of Tang singing and dancing.

Xian's Tang City Wall Park is 3.6kilometers long and 100 meters wide with a total investment of 500 million Yuan. To the east is Qujiang Pool and to the north is Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The park introduces the famous poets and rich connotation of Tang poems by means of calligraphies, sculptures, paintings and handicrafts. Yunnan Adventure Tours and Travel

Yunnan is the southernmost, centrally situated (east to west) province of China, bordering Tibet to the northwest, Myanmar to the west, Laos to the south, Vietnam to the southeast, and Guizhou Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to the east. Throughout the province are scattered the 26 ethnic minorities, so almost every major city in the represents the "capital" of one or more ethnic group, each with its separate, distinctive folk customs and colorful pageantry.

The most prominent ethnic groups are the Yi (their most distinctive celebration is the Torch Festival) and the Bai (the March Fair being their main celebration) ethnic groups, but there are numerous other colorful ethnic groups in the province, including the Dai (the Water Splashing Festival, aka the Spring Festival, being their main celebration), and the Naxi, with their unique Dongba culture that has been recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage. But perhaps the most priceless "tourist attraction" of Yunnan Province is inarguably its stunningly beautiful and richly varied natural landscapes that will leave the beholder in speechless awe.

The mountains of the northeast are snow-capped year round, with glaciers at higher altitudes while virgin forests, interspersed with lakes and hot springs, predominate at lower altitudes. One of China's major ski resorts, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Ski Resort, is located here, while only about 600 km (370 mi) farther south, near Yunnan's, and China's, border with Myanmar and Laos, and thus bordering on the Tropic of Cancer, lies the tropical rainforest, Xishuangbanna, home to China's last remaining herds of wild Asian elephants, the endangered (and protected) Yunnan Snub-Nosed Monkey, and home to numerous rare and beautiful plants, some endangered (and thus protected by the state).

China Adventure Tour Packages

When planning a visit to China, most foreign travelers picture China as just Beijing and Shanghai, with little else worth seeing. That could not be further than the truth. In many ways China is similar to the United States, as both are roughly the same size. And, as there is so more to see in the U.S. than New York and Los Angeles, there is also so much to experience and explore in China! With the Great Wall Adventure Club China Adventure Tour Packages, we want to bring you the China that is often unseen by the foreign traveler. This is the China of jungles, cascading rivers, high mountaintops, Muslim markets and bazaars, and ethnic minority villages where life is relatively untouched by the outside world. All this is waiting for you in one of our exciting China Adventure Tour packages!

Our China Adventure Tours cover the entire range of China. These include the most remote, wild and exotic places in the “middle kingdom” that are not otherwise easily accessible. We aim to show you the rugged outdoors of China that western adventurers often miss. Our adventure tours range from a personal jeep tour of the western wilds of Tibet and the famed Silk Road, exploring the Muslim markets of the Chinese far west, horse-riding in the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, hiking through the world’s deepest gorge at Tiger Leaping Gorge, exploring the tropical jungles and rice terraces of Yunnan, and biking to the remote minority villages in Guizhou and Fujian. If you want an up-close look at Mt. Everest, we can provide that too. By signing on with our China Adventure Tours, not only will you have an experience of a lifetime, but you will also learn more about the world’s greatest rising power, and begin to understand its complexity and diversity. With our China Adventure Tours, Great Wall Adventure club guarantees the same high standard of quality and service that apply to our other tours and excursions.

On your China Adventure Tour you will have a local English-speaking guide with you, so you will get the best possible value for your tour. As usual with Great Wall Adventure Club, we will take care of arranging the transportation and accommodation you want for your trip.

We also have more conventional China Adventure tours to the former imperial resort of Chengde, famed for its splendid resorts and Tibetan temples, and to Pingyao, a city in central China where being there is like walking back in time to the golden age of the Qing dynasty.

International travel agencies are welcome to collaborate with us to give your guests their own customized tours.

Unrestored Badaling-Stone Gorge Pass-Huanghuacheng-Xishuiyu-Jiankou-Mutianyu-Gubeikou-Jinshanling-Huangyaguan-Qianganjian

Not for the regular tourist, this hike is designed for the well-conditioned hiker with experience. Featuring 5-7 hours of hiking per day, this hike is only for those serious about exploring the Great Wall. We begin at Badaling, not the tourist one, but a quiet unrestored section noted for its challenging terrain. We’ll move into Shixiaguan a largely intact portion set among the mountains and hills. The scene then shifts to Hunaghuacheng, where we will trek until we reach Xishuiyu, which is famed for its underwater portion of the Great Wall. Next, we’ll tackle Jiankou, a largely dilapidated section that features awe-inspiring ruins set against some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. We’ll get a break when we cross over into Mutianyu, a largely restored section where the hiking is relatively tame. The following day we’ll be at Gubeikou, a vitally important section that saw some fighting during the Japanese invasion of the 1930s. From here we’ll hike into Jinshanling, where that night we will camp out in one of its countless watchtowers. The next day we’ll encounter west Simatai (the rest is closed for the time being), which features some of the steepest hiking you’ll find. Our final trek will be at Hunaghuacheng, and while the wall here is restored its setting upon rolling hills makes for some hard trekking.
